About Publisher Spotlight

Publisher Spotlight is a discovery spot for teachers and librarians seeking quality books from a range of independent publishers.

We trace our roots to the 2012 conference of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. There, company founder Ellen Myrick was helping a publisher client to staff their booth when, surveying the exhibit floor, she noticed a few publishers present who had 10-15 books that were perfect for the audience, but they did not have enough titles to completely justify their own dedicated space.

Three months later, we staffed our own first exhibits space with a collection of books curated specifically for the conference audience. We attended four conferences that first year, including both American Library Association events, another National Association for the Education of Young Children conference, and the conference of the National Council for the Social Studies.

Twelve years later, Publisher Spotlight has become a destination exhibitor at ten conferences a year, with books, audiobooks, and other children’s literacy support materials of high appeal to teachers and librarians. Conference goers know they will find books in our booth that are fresh and exciting. They count on our knowledgeable team to help them find both what they already know they want to find and also new books and publishers relevant to their needs and interests.

Ellen founded Publisher Spotlight’s parent company, Myrick Marketing & Media, in 2009. This branch of the business is dedicated to publicity and marketing for independent and international publishers for children and teens. While Publisher Spotlight focuses on conferences, Myrick Marketing & Media helps these smaller publishers who do consistently excellent work to be recognized and celebrated. Our collective staff has more than two centuries of combined experience in the book world.

From pitching to review journals, to cultivating influencers; from presenting at professional gatherings to submitting publications to award bodies that are both worthy and impactful; from creating original social media content to amplifying our client messages; we partner with our client publishers to ensure that their books are part of the conversation.

Our well-connected team also gains insight and experience through our support of worthwhile associations in the industry including sponsorships of The United States Board on Books for Young People, the American Library Association, and the Audio Publishers Association.
